How Middle-Aged People Celebrate History

After whooping it up for a few minutes and dancing around the living room at Obama's victory last Tuesday night, we went out on to the deck to hear how the rest of the neighbourhood was celebrating. Silence. We whooped some more, but there was no response. It was raining.

"I have to go back in," I said as the historic moment slipped away. "My hearing-aids are starting to get wet." But by next morning Obama had made the rain stop.

Some times it's nice to live in DC - I just had to shamble the four blocks north to U St., grab a beer (apparently, Obama made the MPD forget about open container laws for one night) and watch the craziness unfold in front of me. Good times. Good times.

How long will his honeymoon last though?

He has to keep the magic happening. Mrs Boyo has been providing necromantic assistance, but there's a price. Bad luck, Arsenal.

Ha, great punchline.

The celebrations I saw on TV were astonishing. Like the US had been delivered from a repressive dictatorship. But where were all these celebrating people four years ago when they had the opportunity to get rid of Dick 'n Don 'n Dubya? Perhaps your neighbourhood was aware of its failings four years ago. Or they are, more likely, just totally numb.
